Senior Mechanical Engineer - Power & Propulsion (Type 26)

Purpose of Role:
An experienced Mechanical Engineer is required to work within our client's P&P Design Team; where you will be responsible for the design and integration of warship Power & Propulsion systems. You will primarily be deployed in support of the Type 26 Global Combat Ship & there may also be requirements for in service technical support and design investigations.

Experience in ship design and ship construction is required, along with knowledge of ship systems and equipment. Good interpersonal and communication skills are important as you will be working in multi-disciplined groups at all levels.

Engineering Scope:
This role will be required to conduct the integration into a ship design of one or more equipment associated with the following P&P systems:
* Engine Prime Movers
* Uptakes & Downtakes
* High Speed and Low Speed Couplings, Clutches and Brakes
* Gearing and Thrust Blocks
* Shafting and Shafting Auxiliary Equipment
* Inboard and Outboard Bearings and Shaft Seals
* Controllable Pitch Propellers
* Mechanical integration of Propellers and Propulsors.

The Individual:
You are required to be familiar in the design of marine mechanical propulsion systems and practised in delivering solutions that meet demanding customer requirements - across all phases of a shipbuilding lifecycle from requirement through to acceptance.

You should also possess a firm understanding of the transversal factors influencing warship power and propulsion design including underwater radiated noise, shock, survivability, operability, reliability, availability, human factors, design for support, etc.

Key Analytical Skills:
The role holder will be able to perform methodical analyses of engineering issues and possess the judgement to recommend preferred solutions. There is a particular focus on delivering solutions that minimise warship through life costs (TLC) whilst at the same time remaining within whole ship target unit purchase costs (UPC). The intent, where possible, is to adopt cutting edge, cost effective technologies that drive down costs.
