Principal Welding Engineer (Contract)

Principal Welding Engineer required for Devonport dockyard in Plymouth, Devon.

The Principal Welding Engineer is a 12 month contract to provide subject matter expertise and technical management across the business. The purpose of the role is to allow existing staff to focus on specific development projects, while the Principal Welding Engineer continues to provide welding support to project and production.

As such the candidate will need an expert level of welding and metallurgy knowledge and its application to ship and submarine structure and systems.

The Principal Welding Engineer will be responsible for the technical output of a team of experienced welding engineers. The teams activities include the development and authorisation of technical welding instructions, weld procedure development, review of sub-contractor welding management systems and procedures, validation of welding consumables.
The Principal Welding Engineer will also have the opportunity to work with junior members of the team to develop their technical and management development.
As such the candidate will need to demonstrate excellent Communication skills with an ability to be concise when communicating complex technical information.
They will have experience working with ISO, AMSE and Defence Standards with a nuclear dockyard environment.
It is expected that they will have at least five years experience in a welding engineering role or similar.

The following qualifications are required:
* Bachelor degree, with Honours, in relevant engineering discipline * TWI Diploma in Welding Engineering or equivalent i.e. MSc in Welding Engineering * International/European Welding Engineer * Chartered Engineer

The following qualifications are desirable:
* CSWIP 3.1 Visual Inspection
* PCN Level 2 in Radiographic Interpretation

The applicant must be a British National and hold NNPI, PSA and Atomic security clearances.
