Facilities and Maintenance Team Leader, Contract or Temp to Perm, Aldermaston

Role description
Project Maintenance Lead shall ensure that site maintenance and repair works are undertaken safely and to specification. To ensure that any changes are effectively controlled and that work is co-ordinated to minimise delays and cost so meeting the project programme requirements.

Responsibilities
The specific responsibilities of the Maintenance Lead are to:
1. Report to the Cavendish Nuclear Engineer-in-Charge.
2. Utilise the project maintenance documentation system to plan and record all maintenance activities undertaken.
3. Ensure that sufficient and suitable reports of progress are produced in a timely manner.
4. Produce forecasts and allocate labour and resources on the works in a manner consistent with the programme for the works.
5. Specifically, in the interest of safety, they shall:
* Ensure that employees under their control know and understand the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental Policies.
* Operate within agreed systems/procedures applicable to the work on the site or facility, including client systems where applicable. Full use of the services of Health and Safety personnel should be made to assist and advise him/her in carrying out their duties.
* Ensure that all procedures and instructions, relevant to the activities being undertaken as detailed by the Company are known and complied with.
* Routinely check the workplace and activities undertaken in order to ensure that these continue to be satisfactory in terms of Health and Safety and maintain a record of the checks. Particular emphasis should be placed on establishing that plant, tools and equipment are available and safe to use. Safe access to places of work coupled with the highest standards of housekeeping is equally important.
* Ensure that all employees under their control are instructed, trained and capable of carrying out their duties in a safe manner. Particular attention must be paid to non-routine operations. New or transferred employees must not undertake tasks without appropriate induction, instruction or relevant training.
* Be fully conversant with the Cavendish Nuclear event reporting procedures, carry out preliminary investigations of unplanned events and take prompt remedial action.
* Ensure that all unplanned events are reported to their line management as soon as is practicable.
* Ensure that protective clothing and equipment is issued to employees as required and that all employees under their control are instructed as to the use and maintenance of such clothing and equipment.
* Co-operate with the Company HSSE department in the implementation of its recommendations.
* At all times set a personal example for employees to follow in the observance of Health and Safety requirements.
* Continually seek to improve Health, Safety and Environmental standards and make suggestions to departmental heads or to health and safety personnel on possible improvements.
* Ensure visitors, including contractors, are aware of hazards that may exist on the site or premises. Where visitors have been provided with protective clothing and equipment, Maintenance Leads shall ensure that it is worn.
* In order to ensure their activities do not affect the Health and Safety of Company employees or members of the public, or damage to the environment, arrangements must be made to monitor the contractors' work.
6. Assess the training and development needs of staff under the Maintenance Lead and recommend to the Engineer-in-Charge appropriate action.
7. Record any problems encountered during the works and, in conjunction with the relevant parties, ensure the impact on the project is minimised.
8. Liaise with stakeholders as required to ensure good communications and problem resolution including:
* Supervision
* Staff Representatives
* All levels of labour
* Client
9. Ensure compliance with rules/regulations, permit systems and safety requirements in force in the specific location and to promote these disciplines to all those under the Maintenance Lead's control.
10. Performance of other duties as considered appropriate by the Maintenance Lead's Line Manager that lie within the capabilities and experience of the Maintenance Lead.


Qualifications & Experience:
* HNC in Engineering (Electrical of Mechanical) or equivalent L4 qualification.
* Significant maintenance experience within an appropriate industry sector (preferably Nuclear) including supervision/management.
* IOSH Managing Safely (Mandatory).
Or
* ONC in Engineering (Electrical of Mechanical) or recognised and approved apprenticeship.
* Ideally extensive maintenance experience within an appropriate industry sector (preferably Nuclear) including supervision/management.
* IOSH Managing Safely (Mandatory).
