We are currently recruiting for a diligent and capable procurement manager to work for one of the largest names within the telecommunications sector. This role will promote and lead the delivery of best practice professional procurement and contracting initiatives which result in contracts for goods and services that deliver the business need and maximise value and savings.

The Team


You will be working with the operations teams, you will look at and develop the full range of procurement strategies to deliver best value services and savings across a wide range of fixed and wireless Telco and IT services. So your core experience will need to be in the procurement of IT Managed Services and/or Telco Managed Services. The role is based in Rugby but with premises in Slough & London there is flexibility.

Job Description

  • Key measures associated with the delivery of savings, cost avoidance and best value for money.
  • Lead on assessment of procurement strategy, identification of potential suppliers within market sector and end-to-end tender process; collation of tender documents, supplier selection, adjudicate tender responses against agreed selection and scoring criteria to compile data into recommendations to the business on the best supplier options.
  • To develop and support opportunities utilising competition to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness for the delivery of business services, both in-terms of bottom line savings, value for money, as well as reducing business risk.
  • To lead commercial negotiations with suppliers taking responsibility and ownership for drafting suitable terms and conditions and contract documentation taking into account flow down of customer terms, technical and legal considerations to ensure that the business's requirements are met or exceeded.

The key stakeholder relationships are:

  • Create and maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders and 3rd Party representatives to ensure that the opportunities for savings are identified and improved services delivered following an RFX/ITT process. fulfil and exceed our customer commitments and expectations
  • Senior Business area leads with budget responsibility for goods or services being procured.
  • Legal counsel and commercial manager.
  • Product, technical and delivery leads (including product manager, engineering, service designer and Project management).
  • Suppliers & the companies global procurement organisation.

What you will need to have

  • Self-Motivated, Results-Driven individual with a clear focus on achieving targets and objectives.
  • Experience in the Information Technology, Telco and Managed Services market sector.
  • A Procurement professional, capable of leading contract negotiations with a strong finance and commercial appreciation to deliver business value.
  • Good interpersonal skills; able establish rapport and develop relationships with all key stakeholders: suppliers and colleagues and well as being credible, and comfortable in dealing with senior executives.
  • Strong ethos for governance and accountability to ensuring compliance with business governance.
  • Aptitude for technology and a clear communicator that works well both within a functional team to share best practice as well as across a multi-functional team to understand and define clear business needs.
  • Well-presented and business-like.
  • Sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel up to a few days a week within the UK.


Academic and Technical Qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree standard or equivalent
  • MCIPS
  • ITIL (desirable)


Other technical expertise, experience and knowledge:

  • At least 10 yrs (desirable) strategic procurement experience in Telecommunications/ IT services industry.
  • Experience of working with Public Sector customers and contracts
  • Ability to manage personal workload across multiple projects
  • Negotiation skills of complex contracts.
  • Understanding and establishment of commercial and service KPI's
  • Strong commercial and business awareness
  • Good working knowledge of contract law
  • Complex Outsourced Services
  • Strong Customer focus
  • Good knowledge of contracts and their structure
  • Strong understanding of procurement
