Remediation Site Manager, Bridgwater
We currently have an opportunity for a Contract Remediation Site Manager to support our contaminated land remediation project in Bridgwater, Somerset.
The Bridgwater project involves the land remediation of a former explosives manufacturing site dating back to World War II comprising both industrially and explosively contaminated land to an approved remediation strategy.
As Remediation Site Manager, you will report to the Senior Project Manager and will be responsible for leading the successful contract delivery of remediation activities to meet the cost and quality criteria and project milestones. You will have a key role in managing and coordinating the various remediation operations including treatment of contaminated soil & groundwater, civil engineering & land-forming earthworks, remediation technologies and waste reduction, recycling & disposal. The role includes working with our project management and consultancy team and the management of subcontractors.
You will work closely with our Site Supervisor and consultancy team to plan and execute the various remediation work packages designed by our subject matter experts.
The role requires you to ensure compliance to statutory and company requirements, employing construction best practice techniques and a clear understanding and experience of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), principal designer and principal contractor roles and associated duties.
Your main responsibilities as Construction Site Manager will involve:
Ensuring delivery of the Bridgwater remediation project to the required Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) standards, business, company and statutory requirements and promoting a sustainable approach
Ensuring delivery of all operational activities in accordance with the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan
Supporting the Environmental Management Plan, Traffic Management Plan and Materials Management Plan, and to review, update and maintain these arrangements as the remedial works progress
Keeping daily records of plant use and site activities
Coordination and cooperation of all site activities with relevant CDM duty holders to ensure operations are being managed and maintained, including chairing daily site briefings
Reviewing all documentation, both subcontractor and BAE Systems employees (SMEs) to ensure Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) are in place for the site activities
Reviewing risk assessments and method statements to ensure hazards have been identified and suitable risk mitigation measures are in place
Your skills, knowledge and qualifications as Remediation Site Manager will ideally include:
Essential
At least five years' experience in a land remediation / construction site management role with a track record of successful project delivery
Experience of land remediation, treatment of contaminated soils and groundwater, breaking out and processing of slabs/foundations, recycling of aggregate and preparatory earthworks
Technical understanding of contaminated land, civil engineering & earthworks, remediation technologies, asbestos in soil and the CL:AIRE definition of waste.
Knowledge of demolition & demolition techniques
Fully conversant with the CDM Regulations particularly the principal contractor and principal designer roles & duties
Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) trained
Temporary Works Coordinator and Asbestos Awareness trained
CSCS Construction Supervision (Gold card)
NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH General with construction experience
CITB Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS) or equivalent as a minimum
Demonstrable safety, health & environmental management experience in the construction / land remediation industry
People management experience, particularly managing a team for effective project delivery
Excellent stakeholder management skills including influencing and negotiation
Experience of coaching, training, influencing and negotiating with staff at all levels to implement change and promote positive outcomes
Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, with knowledge of Microsoft Project
