Maintenance Supervisor, Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), Ford
Salary – Competitive

At Viridor, we’re one of the UK’s leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management companies and part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group. We put waste into action, transforming it into high quality recyclables, raw materials and energy and are at the forefront of the UK’s green economy. We’re undergoing rapid change and development which provides opportunities for those who are seeking a role to make their mark and drive forward a best in class performance.

Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs) process large volumes of municipal, commercial and industrial dry mixed materials to produce a range of high-quality recyclable outputs. A combination of advanced mechanical sorting techniques and manual quality control is used to separate the materials so that they can be reprocessed into new products.

The technologies we use at our ‘next generation’ MRFs at Glasgow, Manchester, Kent and Ford are now so sophisticated that we can recycle over 95% of the materials that go through the plants.

Our Ford MRF requires two talented Mechanical Maintenance Supervisors who will plan, organise and supervise corrective and reactive work, and be responsible for delivering improvement projects leading to increased plant reliability and cost reduction. They will be trained to supervise the daily shutdown period where they will oversee and direct the maintenance and cleaning activities.

Working in a small but crucial team of engineers, reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisors ensure delivery of the Planned Maintenance schedules, maximising equipment availability and performance whist still achieving output levels required to meet production demands. They use their experience as well as the company’s bespoke WorkSmart maintenance philosophy and CMMS system to underpin a successful approach.

The site can operate 24/7 and the role will involve working ‘4 on 4 off’ shifts. The skill set being sought is one person who is mainly mechanical but with some electrical knowledge. The second role is mainly electrical but with some mechanical knowledge. A mechanical-electrical multi-skilled person would be highly suitable.

Our ideal Maintenance Supervisor will have:

  • A strong no compromise approach to health and safety
  • Experience of supervising other people
  • A demonstrable track record of maintaining and improving the availability of a facility or large manufacturing operation ideally with Lean RCM techniques
  • Exposure to an industry with a large-scale process where output and reliability is a priority
  • A background in contributing to problem solving workshops, providing engineering expertise to identify root causes or failure
  • A thorough understanding of stock control, risk assessments and condition reports
  • Comfortable using the Microsoft Office software and a computer CMMS system
  • Preferably ONC / HNC, City & Guilds, NVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant mechanical or fabrication engineering discipline
  • Full driving license

At Viridor, we offer a competitive salary as well as excellent benefits including our pension scheme, healthcare, free eye test and safety eyewear where required alongside a number of flexible benefits.
