What will I be doing?

Joining our busy team as a Debt Verifier / Credit Controller, you will contact a sample of debtors on clients within your portfolio on a monthly cycle, and prospective clients, to confirm receipt and status of invoices and determine the nature of any queries or reason for non-payment.

You’ll provide a thorough yet concise review of findings to the New Business or Relationship teams and Risk Manager with any recommendations for action, following interpretation and analysis of findings. You will proactively seek to understand the client’s business, to ensure the potential risk to Bibby is understood, identify fraud and communicate concerns to necessary parties within the business.

Work with both colleagues and clients to determine the most appropriate and effective way of verifying the debtor book. The Debt Verifier / Credit Controller will provide efficient and effective credit control to a client’s debtor book, in the event of their business ceasing to trade. You’ll determine the most appropriate way to resolve outstanding queries, negotiate and monitor payment plans where needed, personally handling problem accounts when necessary. You will recommend or advise on the need to pursue payment through legal action, liaise with an external legal team and Insolvency Practitioners.

What do I need?

Our ideal Debt Verifier / Credit Controller must have credit control experience within a financial services environment. You will have excellent communication and relationship building skills as well as strong attention to detail.

If you do not have credit control/financial services experience, you will be able to demonstrate attention to detail, a good telephone manner and that you are able to work on your own initiative to investigate and resolve invoice queries. We are also looking for:

  • Strong financial understanding and of financial management and audited accounts
  • Decision-making skills to set credit limits within guidelines, makes recommendations/propose decisions,
  • Numerate - demonstrates an ability to work with numbers
  • IT skills - intermediate PC knowledge. Good keyboard skills and competent user of Microsoft Office
