Main Duties

To assist the Transport Operations and Fleet Manager in the day to day provision of Passenger Transport Services undertaken by the Unit. Oversee the day to day operations undertaken by the PTU including the co-ordination of services, private hire, all public community school and private hire services run by the authority and liaise and manage all operational staff involved with these functions.

Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the day to day operational management of the authority's Passenger Transport Service which includes Home to School Transport, Community and Public Transport services.
  • To identify, appraise and implement opportunities to improve the financial viability and effectiveness of the service without compromising on the quality of the service provided to service users.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal clients, external contracting bodies, statutory agencies and professional networks.
  • To ensure that all drivers comply with statutory requirements, undertake their duties in a safe and flexible manner in accordance with prevailing legislation and their employment contracts
  • To be responsible for the management of all operational staff employed by the PTU, including productivity and performance management, disciplinary action, managing sickness and ensuring that there are sufficient staff to cover contractual obligations at all times.
  • To ensure that all vehicles are safe and compliant with legislation and that identified faults are remedied as soon as practicable.
  • To ensure that the PTU fleet is compliant with prevailing legislation and identify opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint through the introduction of alternative fuels and technologies.

Requirements

  • Hold Full PCV category D Driving Licence (Essential)
  • Hold a PCV CPC Transport Managers Qualification.(Essential)
  • Have appropriate qualifications commensurate with the skill set and requirements of the role.
  • Have a proven track record and significant experience of operating in a logistics environment.
  • Have the ability to work to strict deadlines in a pressurised environment
