Costain helps to improve people's lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK's energy, water and transportation infrastructures.

Gatwick station currently experiences significant passenger congestion both at platform level and in the existing station concourse. The project seeks to provide a world class passenger interchange from plane to train. It will improve passenger experience by providing a new concourse which will reduce congestion, improve vertical circulation and provide an intuitive connection with airport terminals.

Our contract with Network Rail is to provide GRIP 3 to 8 services, from concept design through to detailed design, construction, testing and commissioning and handover

Objectives of the role:
Leading the creation of a right first time quality culture and maintaining this through the project lifecycle (design, construction and commissioning stages). When areas of the project are entered into service (EIS), ensuring the works are fully completed to the approved specification, fully inspected by competent people and fully assured. Supporting the achievement of the Network Rail KPI's (see appendix)
SHE
Providing support to achieve the Gatwick project specific SHE strategy. Supporting a culture of engagement and continuous improvement in our SHE performance
Quality and assurance
Providing leadership to ensure all sub-contractors have an approved quality plan and all works commence with an approved ITP following an appropriate Quality risk review. Creating and supporting a culture of "Right first time" and "progressive assurance". Implementing and following Costain Ltd company Quality procedures as given in the "Costain Way".
Supporting Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) to ensure that all design follows Network Rail and Costain Way procedures.
Set up a robust Quality Audit programme of internal processes and external suppliers and sub suppliers.
Programme and delivery
Ensuring we achieve the four sectional dates:
* Completion of the physical works of Stage 1: Platform 7
* Completion of the physical works of Stage 2: of Platforms 5&6 and BOH
* Completion of the physical works of BOH building
* Completion of the physical works of Stage 3: New Concourse
Create and support a culture and discipline of detailed planning and co-ordination that supports a right first time culture.
Leadership in the planning and delivery of possessions, resulting in successful completion of the planned works.
Commercial and contract
Delivering a right first time culture will support Costain achieving an enhanced fee through the sharegain mechanism.
Client
Build positive relationships with the Client team and meet their needs. Provide leadership and support to ensure the project complies with Network Rail standards and process
Team
Create and support a culture of wellbeing that delivers high levels of performance and productivity. Support the individuals in the team to flourish and develop.
Supply chain
Establish and support a positive quality culture and performance in the supply chain.
Risk and opportunity
Leadership in the identification and mitigation of key quality and assurance risks and realisation of opportunities to improve the project performance
Continuous improvement and innovation
Support a culture of learning, continuous improvement and innovation. Ensure learning from quality significant events are intelligently embedded in the project and provided for wider learning in Network rail and Costain

Essential
Experienced in effective Quality leadership
Developing and implementing a quality strategy on a complex multidiscipline project.
Leadership of quality and assurance teams
Experience of working on complex station projects > £50m and Experience of working on Network Rail projects and being familiar with Network Rail standards.
Experience of managing an internal and external auditing programme.
Competent auditor.
Investigating quality incidents and leading improvement plans
