We are looking for an experienced Data Journalist, ideally with experience in writing content related to asset management or the financial services sector, to join a market leading, global business intelligence company. This exciting role will require travel to New York - exciting right?! So any applications will need to be eligible to travel to the US, please bare this in mind!

This role will sit withing the global content teams which are tasked with delivering best-in-class data and actionable intelligence on institutional and private wealth investors, fund managers and service providers across the global asset management industry.

This newly established role will focus on creating data-led content by leveraging our proprietary database and extensive editorial coverage, as well as improving the quality and representation of data accompanying stories by other journalists. This new content stream will provide an additional stream of data analysis and actionable insights to our global customer base.

The role will report to the Chief Content Officer and be based in either London or New York. The role presents an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual with a keen interest in interrogating and analysing data to generate actionable content and connect trends to financial market activity. The Editorial Analyst will pitch, research and write data-led stories either alone or in collaboration with other journalists and work closely with beat journalists, section editors, researchers and data analysts.

This role would suit a journalist with extensive experience in using data or a research analyst at a financial data or asset management company.

The Responsibilities:

*Create data-led content that is focused, relevant and applicable to industry practitioners and our customers
*Generate data-driven insights and trends by using and mining large data sets and unstructured editorial coverage

*Work with fellow journalists to enhance the editorial narrative using data analysis and data visuals
*Understand and keep abreast of broader industry and market trends and developments affecting the global asset management industry
*Guide the editorial teams in determining tools and techniques for data analysis, including leveraging statistical and quantitative methods, collection tools, third-party tools and financial datasets
* Work with the production team to produce data visualisations and infographics
*Create data templates for specific or regular themes as well as a framework for exploring and experimenting with data ideas
* Potential to develop new data-led editorial products


The Attributes

*Experience in producing research and data commentary, preferably addressing alternative asset markets (hedge funds, real estate, private debt)
* Ability to angle a story for a specific audience; a keen eye for what makes a story
*Ability to identify the primary points of journalistic interest in a complex dataset and conveying them clearly and concisely for a specific audience
* Understanding of a news hook and basic storytelling techniques
*Strong analytical skills, with fluency in some or all of: data-mining/scraping; databases and SQL; statistical packages and programming languages (R, Python, etc.); and visualisation tools (D3, Tableau, etc.)
* Willingness to experiment, take risks and creatively think of new angles to interpret
existing data
* Excellence in researching and analysing data
* Excellent verbal and written communication, numeracy and literacy skills
* Must have eligibility to work in London or New York, no relocation available
