Substation Design Engineer (Contract)

Substation Design Engineer (to 400kV) with National Grid design required for an immediate start on a contract basis.

Job Summary

This role will involve supporting the design of EHV substations across full project life cycle, from feasibility studies to detailed design for Contractors. The role is focused on primary plan t but knowledge of secondary systems design will be an advantage

The Role

This role requires an electrical substation design engineer to support the design of a range of HV and EHV substations, including both AIS and GIS substations at voltages ranging from 132kV to 400kV. Existing projects requiring support include the following:

• Preliminary design of 400kV AIS substations for project in the Middle-East
• Concept and FEED design for 400kV GIS substations in the middle-east.
• FEED design for the 132kV and 400kV grid connections for a number of innovative grid stability projects and blackstart facilities.
• Potentially design support to a number of MV substations for internal AECOM clients.

A flexible approach and ability to work across of range of projects at the same time is an important requirement.

Desirable Skills & Experience

Experience of design in at least one of the following areas would be advantageous:

• Design of HV cable systems
• Load flow and fault studies, using commercially available software e.g. DigSilent, ETAP, PSSE, PScad etc.
• Earthing system studies and design using commercially available software such as CDEGS or similar.
• Design and specification of SCADA and telecoms systems associated with substations.
• Design of HVDC systems
