I am seeking to appoint two Special Needs Teaching Assistant (TAs) / Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to join a friendly, supportive and well run special needs school in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The school is looking for two new Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join their team to support new students who will be joining them in the next month having recently moved into the local area.

Experience supporting primary aged children with Autism or similar special needs in a mainstream or SEN setting would be advantageous. A basic understanding of PECS and Makaton and some personal care experience would be highly desirable.

The Hillingdon school is one of the largest and best run in the country for children on the autism spectrum. The school provides for students aged between three and a half and nineteen years of age. The school offers a unique mix of education and support to pupils within a wide spectrum of needs and abilities. Personalised teaching and learning in an autism specific environment allows pupils individual needs to be addressed completely and their capabilities fully realised.

All staff strive to provide an effective, specialist education and support to pupils with an autistic spectrum condition and their families. The ultimate goal being to provide the pupils with the skills, knowledge and understanding to achieve their full potential in education and life.

Students in the primary phase access the National Curriculum from the age of three and a half to twelve years. The National Curriculum is tailored to the individual needs of the pupil through the use of the Equals schemes of work and is supported through a communication-centred environment. Classes are taught which cover the core and non-core foundation subjects. The school uses a topic curriculum which is an engaging and creative way to work. This is implemented through "a creative learning journey" which is a skills based curriculum focusing on personalised learning through topic. Their focused teaching procedures ensure that each child progresses at their own individual pace and works towards achieving their potential.

Their is a strong emphasis on visual support and displays creates a purposeful learning environment and computer programmes such as Widget and Boardmaker support this. Every class has a visual timetable and the interactive learning board outlines the structure of each lesson, the key language and the behaviour that is expected. Pupils have access to ipads to support learning. Structured approaches are also used which include: Picture Exchange Communication System, TEACCH and Makaton.
