Our Gloucestershire based client is currently seeking to recruit a contract Site Construction Engineer. This is potentially a longer term assignment which will involve UK wide travel. A competitive rate is on offer to the right candidate.

Reporting to:

Head of Operations Group (Function) and Business Account Project Manager(s) (Delivery)

Brief:

The successful candidate shall manage Safety on the site, ensuring that all safety, quality, environmental and welfare requirements are complied with. Responsibility in this regard will relate to:

  • Current work programme
  • Planning new operations and methods of work
  • Use of plant, equipment or substances

Principle duties:

  • Ensuring that all employees under his/her control have access to the company Management System; understand Company Policies; accept their duties under company procedures and comply with the client's Project Safety Plan.
  • Ensure that employees under his/her control have appropriate information and training relating to health, safety, environment and welfare at work.
  • Ensure that visitors, including sub-contractors, are aware of possible hazards that may exist on the sites or premises. Before commencement of work any safety rules/ regulations applicable to the site or facility must be drawn to the sub-contractors'/visitors' attention; all works monitored and safeguards put in place to ensure their activities do not affect the health and safety of Company employees, or members of the public.
  • Ensure that any visit to the site or facility under his/her control by Inspectors of the Health and Safety Executive or other enforcement bodies are notified to the Project Manager, the Head of Operations Group and the relevant HSE Business Partner.
  • Co-operate with Assurance team in the implementation of its recommendations and periodic audit and inspection of the site or facility. Effect all Corrective Actions resulting from formal audits/inspections against specified target timescale(s).
  • Chair monthly/bi-monthly Site Assurance Meetings (SAM) or HSSE Committee meetings
  • Provide support in relation to COSHH by:
  1. Where practicable, minimising the use of substances hazardous to health and ensuring their suitable/safe storage. COSHH assessments. Maintenance of register for Hazardous Substances. Undertaking of Health Surveillance (or Exposure Monitoring) required by the COSHH Regulations. Adherence to Internal Material Code (IMC)/Sypol CMS requirements. Ultimate correct disposal of Waste Substances is undertaken.
  2. Ensuring that where work is performed involving ionising radiation sources all regulation, policy and procedures are followed and expediently/appropriately documented.
  • Ensuring that plant equipment is maintained to a standard that facilitates achieving the quality objectives and that measuring and test equipment is registered for calibration control.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline (preferred)
  • Experience of managing projects including programmes and budgets - APMP Qualification
  • A current IOSH Managing Safely qualification, preferably NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Preferably 10 years' experience over a range of engineering topics. Experience should include all phases of a complex, multi-discipline project, in a regulated environment (preferably nuclear).
