Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Glossop

Salary: £40,000-£42,000 PA

Job type: Full time. 40 Hours per week or otherwise as necessary. Core hours of 10am to 3pm Mon-Fri.

The Role:

UDC are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our vibrant team of construction professionals. You will be working under our Operations Director and Project Portfolio Manager and will undertake as follows:-

  1. Management of approved contractor list inclusive of sending out new application forms, evaluating responses and maintaining key data.
  2. Prepare outline and detailed budget estimates for projects - updating at key stages.
  3. Take on and manage NBS Chorus inclusive of Preliminary and Schedule of Work templates - keeping all clauses up to date. Preparing project specific specifications.
  4. Prepare tender packages inclusive of all associated documents.
  5. Distribute tenders, deal with tender queries, issue addendums.
  6. Receive tenders, analyse, evaluate and prepare tender reports including recommendations.
  7. Draft contracts inc appendices.
  8. Act as Contract Administrator under JCT & NEC forms of contract including:-
    1. Valuation and issue of instructions
    2. Prepare and evaluate contractual claims
    3. Responsibility for cost control & regular reporting to a high level of accuracy
    4. Interim Valuations
    5. Contract notices
    6. Agreeing Final Accounts
    7. Dealing with Contractual Disputes
  9. Attending contract and client meetings, chairing where necessary and taking / recording minutes.
  10. Preparation and service of contractual documentation
  11. Establish and maintain good client relationships
  12. Drive new enquiries and business into the practice
  13. Supporting the sales / tender process for new business

Required Skills:

  1. Formal relevant qualification
  2. Construction knowledge and experience
  3. Discipline & diligence
  4. Ability to thrive as part of a collaborative and award-winning team environment, but also have the confidence and experience to work alone and make key commercial decisions on a day-to-day basis without direct supervision
  5. High level of organisation and ability to manage own time effectively
  6. Flexibility and drive to deliver solutions in the most efficient & effective manner
  7. Attention to detail and presentation of published materials
  8. Ability to positively influence colleagues and wider stakeholders
  9. Effective communication skills both written & verbal
  10. Competency in the use of Microsoft Office, NBS Chorus and Excel
  11. Full UK Driving Licence
  12. Responsibility for project profitability in respect of professional services

Experience Required:

  1. Surveying & undertaking valuation inspections
  2. Contract Administration (min 2 years)
  3. Execution of Contracts
  4. Dispute resolution

Desirable Skills:

  1. Project Management training and / or experience
  2. Experience in a similar role
  3. MRICS Qualification
