Are you a Care Assistant wanting to work in a care organisation with a friendly supportive atmosphere? Would you enjoy working in a purpose built, modern care home, fully resourced in attractive landscaped gardens providing high quality services covering daily living activities to older people?

Your day will never be dull. One minute you will be supporting guests with personal care or being a friendly listening ear. The next you will be helping organise activities and entertainment; occasionally you may accompany guests on day trips out. Your domestic cleaning duties will help maintain the home's reputation for outstanding cleanliness.

Your compassionate understanding of older peoples' needs and your enthusiasm and motivation will be welcomed. You can demonstrate daily your caring skills and knowledge gained from your Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or willing to work towards this.)

You will know your shift pattern for a whole year in advance working 30 hours per week over an average 4-day week on early, late and night shifts. Early shift: 7.30 am - 2.48 pm;

Late shift: 2.28 pm - 9.45 pm and Night shift: 9.45 pm - 7.45 am.

About the role:

  • To work as part of a team assisting in the every-day running of Ruskin Lodge, covering all aspects of caring for the guests and assisting them in the activities of daily living and also ensuring a safe, clean environment is maintained at all times for the guests.
  • To assist with the personal care of guests, including bathing, feeding, toileting, dressing etc.
  • Acting as Chaperone for day trips, outings, arrivals, departures etc., in the absence of Volunteer Chaperones
  • occasionally.
  • To carry out domestic duties, including cleaning, bed-making, setting tables, serving meals, and preparing evening meals.
  • Laundering of guests' personal clothing and some bed linen.

About you:

  • Have attained Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) or willing to work towards this qualification.
  • Previous experience in caring for older people in a residential setting would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours and operate on a shift rota system. Always aiming to give over and above the norm in terms of commitment and enthusiasm. Able to cope with stressful and emotional situations or emergencies and remain calm in a crisis.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and guests. Must be able to work as part of a team showing willingness and consideration for others.
  • Must be reliable and punctual. The ability to maintain high standards is essential. Must be hardworking and prepared to 'get stuck in' aiming to achieve the desired results at all times.
  • Must be flexible in job role, willing to take on other tasks as needed and within own capabilities. Must be willing to assist colleagues and be able to offer support when necessary. Should be positive to change and new methods of work.
  • Be of a caring nature, showing personal warmth. Be pleasant, willing, always observant and must be non-judgemental and have an empathy for older people. Patience and tolerance are essential qualities in this role.
  • Good general standard of health with excellent agility/dexterity. Good image and well presented in order to be a good ambassador for the organisation.
