Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Coordination of delivery of a number of high complexity projects (Category A - D) to time, cost and QEH&S targets.
  • Defines the Project Management Strategy and Vision ensuring it integrates with the overall Business strategy
  • To provide independent assurance of project delivery and performance across the Nuclear business by assessing ability to deliver programmes / projects on time and within budget whilst ensuring associated programme / project risks are mitigated
  • To establish and maintain the Career Development Framework for Project Management resources that summarise the indicative qualifications, experience and competency levels for the defined roles within the community
  • With support from the Head of Programme Management and Head of Resource Management maintain a community of Competent staff and ASW's to ensure core capability is available to meet the demands of the key account areas
  • Recruit and maintain competent and suitably qualified experienced staff and agency supplied resources to ensure core capability is available to meet the demands of the business
  • Provide leadership in the development of "best practice" as outlined within, the APM "Body of Knowledge?, and the Nuclear National Skills Academy competency framework and other relevant industry standards to improve business performance
  • Document and maintain processes and procedures within the Management System with reference to industry best practice
  • Ensure the consistent application of the Management System throughout the business through training and mentoring
  • To support and promote the principles, processes and culture that underpin company accreditation for IAMM and ISO 9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001
  • Ensure the necessary Health, Safety and Welfare informed compliance with legislative requirements through the training of all functional staff
  • Maintains professional links to the APM, Nuclear National Skills Academy and other associated professional bodies relevant to the development of the Project Management Community
  • To communicate, share and promote awareness of external and internal best practice in project management
  • To ensure the needs of the Project Management Community are represented within company change management initiatives

Academic/ Experience Requirements

  • Degree level qualification or higher in an Engineering Discipline
  • Chartered Engineer with a recognised Engineering Institution
  • Association of Project Management (APM) Full member or equivalent Project Management Institute (PMI) qualification, RPP and PMP Preferred
  • Senior leadership course highly valued
  • IOSH Managing Safely or higher safety qualifications preferred
  • Environmental Training preferred; Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) Foundation Course or Associate Certificate or NEBOSH Environmental certificate
  • Minimum 15 years project management experience of which 5 years were in leadership functions for high complexity projects and programmes
  • Able to demonstrate management experience across the complete project lifecycle
  • Engineering background in an appropriate sector, process engineering, oil & gas or civil engineering; nuclear preferable.
  • Experience in managing and leading project teams
