We are recruiting for Project Managers to join our Clients existing planning and consents team, to support their major infrastructure development projects across their sites, we are looking for individuals with project management, planning and communication skills to directly promote and then manage the DCO Reading and Examination Phases.

This is a rare opportunity to come into the business and help grow the planning and consents team in a growing UK energy company. The role will be varied and demanding overseeing a number of projects, developing relationships with key stakeholders and working with various internal engineering functions and design teams.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To ensure that internal or external technical (EIA/legal/construction/engineering) experts provide the appropriate input to support planning consultation with relevant stakeholders, building up to the drafting and submission of the necessary planning application documentation
  • Owner and author of boutique planning documents to support the Development Consent Order or Associated Development e.g. Statement of Common Ground
  • Owner and author of Town and Country Planning Documents e.g. Design and Access Statements or Planning Statements
  • Responsible for co-ordination of interactions with statutory bodies associated with the project . This entails:
  • Being the focus of expertise on planning and consenting issues for the individual work areas allocated by the Manager/Head of Department.
  • Scoping the environmental aspects of the project and so understanding the site specific planning constraints, planned construction and operating aspects.
  • Developing strong planning arguments to support the form of development to meet with
  • Providing the necessary information so that the need for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) can be determined. This will entail an ability to
  • understand what the likely emissions from a plant will be to air, water and land and to be able to estimate what their impact will be on the environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Project delivery skills demonstrated in practice on the job (not just theoretical knowledge) through self, whilst also ensuring quality and timely delivery through others. N.B The business will support people with relevant practical experience to gain formal project management qualifications as appropriate development
  • Significant relevant experience of working in a project environment preferably on large power plant or large utility/infrastructure projects
  • Demonstration of ability to apply knowledge to deliver business needs and to defend the conclusions they have drawn from their technical analyses. This ability would normally be expected to be obtained by significant experience in a post with similar technical demands.
  • Significant experience of Planning Applications, co-ordinating relevant documentation
  • Experience of the application of planning policy and environmental and planning legislation in relation to infrastructure projects and related developments
  • Balances an ability to work unsupervised and to take ownership whilst also having a clear ability and enjoyment for working collaboratively across teams/departments to deliver results/positive outcomes.
  • Experience of Microsoft Groupware - e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage for this post.
  • Demonstration of ability to undertake critical analysis of environmental/planning reports taking into account the project context and business needs. This ability would normally be expected to be obtained by proven experience in a post with similar technical demands.
  • Good knowledge of the EIA and ES process with respect to UK law, policy and procedure.
  • Holding or working towards Membership of appropriate professional body such as MRTPI or IEMA
  • Significant relevant experience of working in a project environment preferably on large power plant or large utility/infrastructure projects
  • Experience of Habitat Regulations Assessment, Health Impact Assessment, Language Impact Assessment and Environmental Permitting may also be helpful.
  • Experience of recent document control software
