Job Title: Senior Communications Officer

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S35

Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 dependent on experience

As the representative body for the UK industry, the organisation communicates the glass sector's value and interests - as well as fostering collaboration and innovation - to secure a thriving, sustainable future for glass. Their membership includes companies from across the full glass supply chain.

They're looking for an experienced communications officer to develop and implement campaigns on behalf of the UK container glass manufacturing sector - which produces bottles and jars for a wide range of food, drink and cosmetic products, including some of world's best-known brands.

The post-holder will develop, coordinate and deliver communications to promote the benefits of glass packaging and support adoption/continued use of glass. This will involve projects that work across multiple channels and reach stakeholder groups including brands, retailers, packaging designers, recyclers/re-processors and local authorities and end consumers (adults and children).

Key requirements:

  • Plan, develop and implement communication and PR campaigns to raise the profile of the glass container sector and its activities for example: B2B fact sheets/resources for glass buyers at brand/retailer level; schools resources about glass recycling; blogs and social media competitions/campaigns to promote the benefits of glass packaging to consumers
  • Develop and co-ordinate social media strategy and activity, creating content to drive stakeholder engagement Create content (including web news and comment items and blogs), trade editorial and e-bulletin items related to topical packaging issues
  • Write and produce e-bulletins for B2B and consumer audience
  • Organise events including workshops/working groups, presence at events and identify and manage networking, speaking and sponsorship opportunities
  • Research and write or edit case studies, presentations, articles and reports
  • Identify and develop effective links with key influencers/decision makers, colleagues and partners; maintain a contacts database including press, supply chain and other relevant stakeholders
  • Liaise with, and source answers to enquiries from, media, policy makers, other stakeholders and individuals on container glass related matters
  • Measure and report on the impact of communications campaigns, making use of web and social media analytics
  • Coordinate the packaging communications work programme, including budget administration/ invoicing and compiling claims to external funders

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Considerable experience in a similar role - either in-house or agency
  • PR, communications or marketing related qualification to degree level (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven ability to formulate communications/ promotional strategies and campaigns
  • Experience of delivering communications campaigns across multiple channels including web and social media Experience of using e-communications tools (eg MailChimp, DotMailer), social media platforms (eg Tweed Deck, HootSuite) and web content management systems (eg WordPress, Drupal)
  • Full driving licence
  • Proven ability to write engaging and effective copy for marketing collateral, editorial and information pieces (digital and print) - preferably for B2B and consumer audiences

Desirable:

  • Experience of managing production and distribution of high quality publications/resources (print and digital) Experience of organising events (preferably in a B2B context)
  • Experience of managing a devolved project budget, including handling supplier purchase orders and invoicing

Knowledge and abilities:

  • Able to combine commercial acumen with creativity - generates usable ideas with flair
  • Excellent time management, able to manage multiple projects and prioritise own workload to deliver to tight deadlines
  • Able to drive a process forward - including creating robust schedules and coordinating the input of multiple contributors (e.g. subject experts, designers, printers)
  • Excellent interpersonal communicator - by phone, in person and in writin

Desirable:

  • Knowledge/interest in a related area such as FMCG, packaging, recycling
