JOB DESCRIPTION

Tata Chemicals are currently recruiting for an Learning and Development Manager who will head up the L and D function for around 400 employees. Reporting to the General Manager of HR and IT, this is a strategic role and you will have responsibility for delivering the full L and D remit. TCE has a vision to be recognised as a HR department at the forefront of its profession. We believe this requires a constant desire to meet the ever changing needs of the business and its people, a dedication to outstanding customer service and a determination to act as part of a a cohesive team. Therefore this role means that the successful candidate will be expected to drive a 5 year L and D strategy that improves the levels of skills and knowledge of staff at every level of the company. This role is integral to driving business excellence and helping to improve engagement, leadership and competency.

The role will involve determining the best training initiatives that will equip Tata employees to best carry out their jobs efficiently and effectively and also develop their careers. This could involve designing and delivering the training personally or bringing in external experts as required.

The successful candidate will be the sort of person who enjoys working with people and will ultimately become the company champion for learning and development. This will mean selling your ideas and changing ingrained ideas at all levels of the company, so your communication skills will need to be exceptional, as well as the ability to solve problems.

Drive and enthusiasm are key to this role and you will be expected to show a personal commitment to your own development as well as that of your colleagues.
You will need to be an innovative type of person who is unafraid of being direct, can adapt to new ideas and be able to align strategy to the long term plans of the business. This means understanding the business inside out.

The ideal candidate will be a hands on person, who can take Tata Chemicals to the next level. They are keen on taking their LMS to even greater heights, and embedding Leadership Development programmes.

This role is key, as Tata want to develop and embed programmes to drive competency at each of their 3 manufacturing sites in Cheshire.

The ideal candidate will have worked in a manufacturing environment, and will be used to being both strategic and delivery focused. Attention to detail, planning and organising are key attributes, as is a degree of technical competence to manage the LMS system and develop it.
