Job summary:

As a Test Technician, you will work as part of the Validation team that sits in the R&D department. You will support development of Atlas Copco Henrob products including test rig and robot assisted testing.

Reporting to: Team Leader - Product Development & Testing.

Place of work: Deeside site.


Role outline:

Key responsibilities:

- To work within a small team of technicians and engineers.

- To plan and implement suitable product test programs with high testing efficiency a key parameter.

- Run the test programs, including comprehensive data recording / monitoring using manual and automated recording techniques. This may involve periodic checking of test rigs and capturing of data during weekends or evenings, possibly using remote access technology.

- Participate in the design / manufacture of test equipment / rigs, including control circuitry and tooling.

- Write basic software to control test rigs (training will be provided).

- Prepare equipment (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and software) for testing.

- Develop test equipment, visualisation and measurement techniques to help set-up or characterise Henrob equipment.

- Develop and document test programmes and test rigs or critically review test programmes prepared by others.

- Document testing and write test reports, including analysis and summary of data.

- Ensure timely delivery of test results.

- Participate in design reviews and FMEAs providing advice and guidance on testing and validation issues.

- Give feedback and advice on current products and future development.

- Give guidance on design of experiments (DoE) etc to optimise effectiveness of any testing undertaken.

- Develop reliability data (MTBF) from component and system testing.

- Become familiar with Henrob riveting and feed technologies and become a resource for resolving field problems.

- Provide guidance in data logging and measurement techniques.

- Help in the investigation of field failures etc. and provide test data to help understand any problems, identify root cause and verify corrective actions.

- To conduct and implement risk assessments of all development work and to ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times.


Other duties:

- Assist Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality functions as necessary to address product issues.

- To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the company.


Education / qualification / experience:

Essential:

- Basic engineering qualification HNC or good equivalent experience.

- Good basic maths and English.

- Machine shop and / or mechanical fitting experience.

- Practical (hands on) experience in a mechanical engineering environment.

- Understanding of the principals of measurement and testing.

- Familiar with instrumentation, electronic and electrical measurement techniques.

- Experience with data acquisition and data logging (PC based and dedicated hardware).

- Candidates must have good communication skills and be able to produce technical reports to a high standard.

- Candidates must be familiar with email, word-processing and presentation software.

- Engineering degree, HND or similar.

- Engineering apprenticeship (fitter).

- Industrial experience, preferably in manufacturing, product testing or Quality.

- Machine design, automation / robot systems, industrial controls and programming.

- Use of IT in the workplace, in particular Microsoft excel.

- Drawing office practice and CAD. It would be desirable for the candidate to have worked in an industry supplying machinery for use in a high production environment (i.e. automotive) where reliability of production equipment is high.

- Knowledge of pneumatics, electrical components and or hydraulics.

- The ability to interpret and analyse numerical data.

- Ability to work on different projects / jobs for different people at the same time.

- Some site visits to customers and or suppliers may be involved so candidate must be able to be drive and has to have the flexibility to work outside normal office hours as required.
