Today’s modern landfill sites can be a major source of the UK’s renewable energy production, continuing to generate energy for many years after a landfill closes. Untreated, this gas would create environmental damage which is where our aftercare work comes in allowing for safe extraction of landfill gas, supplying fuel engines to generate electricity which is fed into the National Grid.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join us as Head of Landfill and Aftercare, responsible for leading the UK wide landfill, restoration and aftercare operational function, maximising the contribution from our sites and managing the long-term costs, liabilities and compliance in the restoration and aftercare phase.

As part of their responsibilities, our new Head of Landfill and Aftercare will:

• Maximise the operating contribution from the operational landfill business whilst maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. 
• Manage the efficient transition of defined operational landfills through commercial closure into restoration, on to full aftercare status and thereafter the aftercare in closed landfill sites, in line with planning and permitting obligations whilst defining and meeting appropriate Company standards and controlling cost against budgets.
• Manage the Dynamic Landfill Strategy to optimise waste inputs into operational landfill sites to maximise revenue, minimise cost and to ultimately operate the defined sites for best economic closure.
• Assist in the development and appraisal of new schemes for the landfill business.

The idealHead of Landfill and Aftercare:

It’s crucial that as our Head of Landfill and Aftercare, you’ll have extensive and proven experience in the Landfill industry in both operations and aftercare disciplines alongside strong legislative and technical knowledge within the waste industry particularly related to Landfill. You’ll have experience of running a geographically dispersed team responsible for a portfolio of assets in Landfill and Aftercare and extensive experience in compliance, regulatory bodies and health and safety.

As a proven and experienced leader possessing excellent communication, people and stakeholder management skills at a senior level, you’ll also be commercially and financially astute with experience and leading change management.
