We are recruiting for Electrical fitters for work on-site at Devonport dockyard in Plymouth.

WSEG is a multi-disciplined group within the Submarine Business Unit that carries out the Installation, Set to Work and Trials of Weapon Systems fitted to RN Ships and Submarines. It supports vessels in Devonport and around the UK as well as sea and overseas. It also provides expertise to a number of CLS / ISS projects i.e. TLAM and 4.5 Mod 1 Gun.

Purpose of role:

Installation checks of new Weapon System electrical installations and legacy installations on RN vessels and establishments using a range or test equipment.

OPDEF support and fault diagnosis, proposing and effecting corrective solutions on Weapon Systems cabling defects.

Installation, Inspection, testing, calibration and commissioning of Internal Communications and Auxiliary Weapon Systems (Main Broadcast, RICE, Secondary Comms, Telex, PDM2, INA1, SCTS, Agilog, WS&D, Depth, Pedestal Directors, 4.5 Hoist & Misc Sonars - ES800, S189, S2090, S2073) on Warships and Submarines including carrying out fault finding, diagnosis and proposing corrective solutions.

Additionally installation and defect repairs on Weapon Systems (S2050, S2008, R997, Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences1007, 4.5 Gun)

Liaising with project, production, ships staff, MCTA and other commissioning groups and commissioning managers.

Researching and compiling Test Documentation including test form writing and carrying out the role of Test Director as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences:

Ability to work safely with high energy systems.

Ability to work to consistently high standards within a demanding environment.

Able to interpret relevant system drawings and associated documentation.

Sound knowledge and experience of electrical installation techniques and good practices.

Ability to use a range of test equipment.

Ability to conduct repairs on a wide variety of military type connectors.

Flexibility and a good team player.

IT competent.

Willingness on occasion to attend work out of hours or off site in the UK or abroad.

Qualifications Required

Indentured Level 3 Electrical apprenticeship.

Level 3 Electrical Engineering qualification.

Experience of working in a marine industry, ideally on RN Warships or Submarines with some knowledge in Weapon Systems

This position is to start as soon as possible.

Possible permanent role may be offered to Successful candidates who demonstrate their suitability for this position.
