Gafoor is a dynamic and rapidly growing family-owned business in Preston. They are a key player in their sector supplying poultry products to leading blue chip manufacturers nationally.

About the Role:

As a Mechanical Engineer you will be required to work closely with the manufacturing team maintaining and servicing all processing machinery to ensure that machinery downtime is kept to a minimum and that all planned preventative maintenance is conducted to avoid production disruption.

You will need to have worked in a similar manufacturing environment and be able to carry out preventative maintenance, fault finding and deal with machine down-time efficiently. Our engineers work within multi-disciplinary teams rotating on a 24/7 shift basis averaging 45 hours per week.

Excellent communication skills and team work are a must for this role as well as a flexible and proactive approach to ensure the needs of the business are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete repairs and breakdowns in a timely manner and perform RCA's (Root Cause Analysis) to ensure corrective and preventative actions are completed
  • Maintain the highest standards of housekeeping
  • Comply with all company Health & Safety rules and be able to escalate issues when required
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager and the Manufacturing Managers
  • Be part of an Engineering team dedicated to providing a world class service
  • Be confident to communicate effectively and have the initiative to take the lead when required
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and practices
  • Comply with all existing SWPs and contribute to the continuous improvement of SWPs
  • Support and mentor engineering students and in the future apprentice engineers

About You:

Essential Requirements:

  • Must be fluent in English (verbal and written)
  • Excellent I.T Skills
  • Ideally HNC, HND or degree qualified or apprentice with time served experience and excellent practical knowledge gained in a similar food manufacturing setting
  • Minimum 3 years', hands on post qualification experience
  • A methodical approach to fault finding
  • Conversant with UK Health & Safety rules, regulations and best practices
  • Ability to priorities workload and concisely record information
  • Knowledge of PLC's, pneumatics and hydraulics
