Gafoor is a dynamic and rapidly growing family-owned business in Preston. They are a key player in their sector operating on a national basis, supplying poultry products to leading blue chip manufacturers.

About the role:

As an Engineer you will be required to work closely with the manufacturing team maintaining and servicing all processing machinery to ensure that machinery downtime is kept to a minimum and that all planned preventative maintenance is conducted to avoid production disruption.

You will need to have worked in a similar manufacturing environment and be able to carry out preventative maintenance, fault finding and deal with machine down-time efficiently. Our engineers work within multi-disciplinary teams and were happy to talk to candidates with either all-round experience or a mechanical / electrical bias.

The candidate will rotate as part of a multi-disciplinary team working across both day and night shifts, averaging 45 hours per week. Excellent communication skills are a must as well as a flexible and proactive approach to ensure the needs of the business are met.

Key duties:

  • Complete repairs and breakdowns in a timely manner and perform RCA's (Root Cause Analysis) to ensure corrective and preventative actions are completed
  • Maintain the highest standards of housekeeping
  • Comply with all company Health & Safety rules and be able to escalate any failures
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager and the Manufacturing Managers
  • Be part of an Engineering team dedicated to providing a world class service
  • Be confident to communicate effectively and have the initiative to take the lead when required
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and practices
  • Comply with all existing SWPs and contribute to the continuous improvement of SWPs
  • In the future support and mentor Apprentices on site

Key Requirements:

  • Must be fluent in English (verbal and written)
  • Excellent I.T Skills
  • Engineering Degree and a good practical working knowledge gained in a similar food manufacturing setting
  • Minimum 3 years' post qualification experience
  • A methodical approach to fault finding
  • Conversant with UK Health & Safety rules, regulations and best practices
  • Ability to priorities workload and concisely record information
  • Knowledge of PLC's, pneumatics and hydraulics
