Job Type: Full-Time, Fixed Term Maternity Cover, 37 Hours per week, 52 Weeks per year

About the role:

The College Health & Safety Manager is responsible for providing an Occupational Health & Safety service which co-ordinates and promotes Health, Safety and Environmental policy and practice throughout the College.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead, motivate, support and inspire staff and students on all matters relating to Health, Safety and the Environment within the College
  • Develop & review the College's Health and Safety Management Systems and processes ensuring they are current and fit for purpose
  • Work alongside Head of Facilities to arrange, report and review on building related inspections, e.g TM44, TR19, L8, PAT, LEV and any other statutory inspections
  • Arrange and host Senior Management Lead HSE committee meetings
  • Provide/arrange staff safety training, as required, including HSE inductions for new & existing staff
  • Liaise, as required, with staff on matters relating to injury and ill health of staff and students
  • Assist staff in undertaking risk assessments for College activities, most especially off site learning activities, periodically reviewing as required
  • Convene and lead meetings to investigate serious accidents and to assist teams in their work
  • Attend on representatives of regulating authorities during inspections and visits to the College
  • Arrange, conduct and report on regular fire safety exercises throughout the College
  • Develop COSHH processes across College, to manage risks associated with storage, use and disposal of substances and maintain substance registers
  • Maintain and review Emergency Plans with the Assistant Director/Director of Estates
  • Assist with development of Sustainability and Environmental policies that reflect current legislation and promotes best practice
  • Arrange and promulgate new safety information to all College Staff and sites
  • Ensure departmental budget expenditure is managed, monitored and controlled in accordance with College financial regulations

To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you:

  • National Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
  • GradIOSH / CertIOSH or membership of equivalent institution
  • Thorough, and up to date, understanding of Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Management of Health and Safety in an educational setting
