Senior Avionics Systems Engineer

Exciting new PERMANENT opportunity for a Senior Avionics System Engineer based in Bedfordshire.

Our client is a privately-held Aerospace OEM company. The company has a range of proprietary designs (patents & IP) which provide Lighter-Than-Air (LTA) solutions for both the commercial and defence markets, with its current major focus on a long endurance surveillance aircraft (optionally manned) and a heavy lift logistics aircraft capable of lifting 50-tonnes.

As a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer you will have a a strong background in the design and development of aircraft avionics systems, including Electronic Flight Instrument Systems (EFIS), Flight Management Systems (FMS), Communication, Navigation and Identification system.

Key Accountabilities:
* Reporting to the Head of Systems Engineering, Electrical and Avionics, the Senior Avionics Systems Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of the major avionics systems on the Airlander air vehicle from requirements capture through to system test and verification.
* The role will include developing system and equipment specifications, writing Interface Control Documents (ICD), supplier engineering management, producing wiring schemes, system testing and validation and verification activities.
* This is an interesting hands-on engineering role involving the development of a completely new airframe. The successful candidate will have a central role in this development.
* The successful candidate may become one of the company's EASA Compliance Verification Engineers.
* Managing supplier design reviews and witnessing supplier testing.
* Providing technical liaison with the relevant Certification Authority and ensuring that all applicable EASA design and environmental requirements are met.
* Liaison with Design, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and other appropriate departments to develop optimum design solutions.

* Development of tools and processes, and performing other related duties as required by the Company to inform aircraft development decisions
Key Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
* Aerospace engineering degree, or equivalent experience, with emphasis on the avionics and electrical fields.
* Proven experience in the aerospace industry working on system architecture and managing suppliers, or a product development background within the aerospace environment.
* A good working knowledge and experience of the application of classical electrical engineering design methods.
* A proven understanding of aircraft control systems (from architecture to hardware delivery).
* Exposure to processes across the product ARP4754 lifecycle from concept through to production.
* An awareness of CAA/EASA/FAA certification procedures.
* Excellent verbal communication / negotiation skills with people across the whole business at all levels.
* Highly computer literate with a high standard of written English.
* Experience in System Engineering principles is also desirable but not essential.
